Dress #365 Black Roses

This is one of my favorite looks---all the interest in the skirt fabric with a plain black sweater. It is more unexpected than the usual plain black skirt or pants with the fancy top. A very fancy ribbon from the scrapbooking world, black felt for the sweater, and a ribbon belt. The necklace is some chunky embroidery thread that I've had for years.

Red top with black lace overlay, and a sheer black skirt. I'll take this over a little black dress any day. Fabric, lace, and ribbon.

Dress #356 Staying Warm

Still cold here in Paris, and everyone is layering wool over wool. A marvelous red pinstripe jumper layered over one of my dad's old knit ties.

Dress #351 Red, Black and Gold

This is a sheer with metallic design over a bright red silk skirt and a black felt top. The gold trim on the skirt and the neckline is bobbin work---the little IKEA machine didn't even hiccup. I love the way this looks---put some sleeves on it, and send me to a party!

Dress #330 Christmas Rose

This fabric has been in the stash for a long time. Since 1999 maybe? When it showed up in a search earlier this year, I knew it would be a good Christmas-y dress. Cotton fabric, and black velvet ribbon.

I love red---all year 'round. But a red party dress just says "Christmas!" to me. Red silk, a ruffly trim and the last piece of this silver ribbon.

Bright red background with white magnolias---a lovely Christmas combination! Made from a paper tissue---I love working with the printed layer. So malleable!

Dress #322 Dinner with Grandmother

A more conservative dress, but in lovely rich garnet color. Silk dupioni, ribbons, and a bibelot.

Dress #311 Cardinal

This might look strange, but seriously, I think this idea in a bright red silk taffeta would be gorgeous. A bit unusual, but if one is wearing bright red, hiding in the corners isn't going to work anyway. Rice paper.

Dress #293 Beaujolais Nouveau

On the third Thursday in November, the Beaujolais Nouveau arrives! I dyed the lace to match the silk dupioni in the Baltimore atelier earlier in the year, not knowing when it would be used. I saw the posters for tonight's celebration, and knew the right fabric for the dress!

A great work dress for when you want to look feminine yet still very business-like. Fabric, originally from France and a scrap of Ultrasuede.

This looks to me like a casual work dress---so back to work it is! Cotton, from the Hometown collection by Sweetwater and some scrapbooking brads.

I love this postcard! Red dress, one-shouldered, Eiffel Tower sparkling, and the Alexander III bridge sculptures. It sums it all up for me.

Dress #215 Cherries

Summer cherries---I love the tart ones (and without sugar!) but a good friend thinks Rainier cherries are the best part of summer. And there are Bing cherries, too! This is some cotton I've had for a long time.

The red and white of the Polish flag, and a full skirt made for dancing. I can hear the accordions. All paper.

Dress #198 Mars and Stars

I've been absolutely spellbound by the images taken on Mars. Thank you, NASA, for once again making science fiction into science non-fiction. Red (for Mars) cotton, and iron-on stars.

Dress #178 Flowered Cap Sleeve

A different sleeve today, and I like the result. This is made from a flowered cocktail napkin, and looks very cool and summery.

Dress #150 Watermelon

What's summer without watermelon? In my opinion, it is the fruit with the best color combination. The red is a very old hand towel supplemented by some Sharpie seeds, ribbon and another fabric.
