Dress #366 Finale

Well, here it is. My last dress. And yes, it is, in the tradition of the old couture shows, a wedding dress. Fabric, lace, ruffles and pearls in a sophisticated silhouette for my finale. I am both happy and sad that my year is complete. I've enjoyed nearly every moment---admittedly, there were times I didn't want to make a dress. In general, though, once I started, I enjoyed the creative process. What have I learned from this endeavor? 1.) I like fabric, but using paper as fabric was a new pleasure for me. 2.) I found it very difficult to not accept suggestions from others. I like to please, but I wanted this to be entirely my own creativity. 3.) The more you do, the more ideas you have. 4.) Recognition and praise is addicting and terrifying. 5.) It is impossible to me to work neatly. 6.) Waists really make dresses look good! 7.) A little glitz makes me very happy. 8.) Every dress idea produced ideas for other projects. I intend to document those project on this blog as this next year unfolds. 9.) 366 is a lot of little dresses! and 10.) Blogging about a commitment is an excellent motivator.

For all of you who have followed along for the year, thank you. I appreciate all those page views, and if you've made comments, please know that they meant the world to me. Eileen, thank you for sending me the care package of ribbons when I realized I'd left my collection at home. Sandy, thank you for your dialog with  me about how I would display and share them when I finished, and for inviting me to come and speak at your group. Anticipating that presentation will keep me from feeling bereft at the loss of the daily "happy hour." And mostly important, thank you, Jeff, for putting up with the mess, and supporting me 100% all year long. Never did you groan or complain about the money or the effort. Thank you everyone!

  3. The wedding dress is classy, sophisticated, and oh so original and creative - just like you. I must admit that when you first told me of your intentions for the year, I was very skeptical. How could you sustain the level of inspiration and effort? I am so sorry I ever doubted. This project took a lot of time and dedication, and you rose to the challenge with grace and enthusiasm. I am humbled to congratulate you on a remarkable year and achievement. I will miss coming home everynight to be delighted by your creation. When we went shopping yesterday, I was amazed at your transformation - how much you now see in every detail and opportunity. Congratulations on a great year! I am honored to be your friend.

  5. Beautiful ending! I love that you worked in miniature for most of the project. I have to agree with #3. I have 15 to go in my project and at least 50 more ideas. If you miss the project, keep a notebook of your inspirations to keep the creativity alive.

As for this dress, it was the perfect ending. I wouldn't mind walking down the aisle wearing this dress.:)

    1. Diana, thank you for coming along on the journey. I've delighted in your comments---sometimes making a dress and thinking "Diana is going to like this one!" I'll continue to read your blog, of course, and wonder where you find those photos of all those beautiful women.

  45. Okay, so this is it. My final outfit. Indeed, following the couturier tradition of the bygone era, it is a bridal gown. For my finale pay someone to take my class I combined fabric, lace, ruffles, and pearls into a chic design. My year is over, and I feel both thrilled and sad about it. Though, to be honest, there have been moments when I have not wanted to sew a dress. Generally speaking, though, I like the creative process once I got going. What have I discovered from this project? 1.) Although I like fabric, I had never experienced the joy of utilizing paper as cloth. 2.) It was really tough for me to turn down advice from others. If you're immersed in your creative endeavors but find yourself struggling with the demands of an online class, you might consider seeking assistance. You can take my class online for me by , allowing you to fully focus on your passion for design and sewing while someone else handles your academic responsibilities.
