Dress #339 Gala Satin

No one I know will be dressing this haute tonight, but wouldn't it be fun? All I'd have to be is younger, thinner, taller, and a bit more flamboyant. Cream satin and pearls.

Dress #338 More of the Same

Not wanting to give up completely, I tried yesterday's lace as the skirt for this dress. The solid gray bodice gives a younger look, and I think I like this one. I'm glad all of that lace is gone! Lace, fabric, and scrapbooking sparkles.

Dress #337 White with Silver Lace

I just don't know about this one---it isn't quite what I had in mind. Should it be for a very formal New Year's Eve, or should we save it for the Inaugural?

Dress #336 Camel and Gray

Camel and gray is just a softened version of black and tan, putting it on my list of favorites. This dress is inspired by fabrics I bought to make a dress for myself. Usually the inspiration is the other way around! Lace and a wool blend fabric.

Dress #335 New Year's Eve Cruise

I like this halter top dress. The top is from the jewelry store, and is mesh-like in structure. I believe is is used to make drape-y earrings. Black mesh skirt.

Dress #334 Nina

A maternity dress! Way out of my comfort zone, but a special request. Would this be wearable? I'm not sure, but since it is black and tan, I'm happy!

Dress #333 White Christmas

A white Christmas always sounds cozy and romantic, but there is no chance of snow here in Paris today. We are enjoying 50* weather, and even some sunshine. Therefore, we'll have white Christmas in the dress and in our dreams. Ribbon for dress and belt from Eileen, and a star charm on very fine ball chain. Merry Christmas everyone!

Dress #332 Silver Bells

Silver Bells is one of my favorite Christmas songs---probably because of the reference to traffic signals. A green silk skirt and white blouse make a perfect outfit for Christmas Eve cocktails at our neighbors. Silk dupioni, ribbon and 1-Euro-a-Meter white jersey.

Dress #331 Glitzy Jersey

A simple tan jersey dress, but dressed up for the holidays with a gold, green and red cummerbund. This is a soft jersey that drapes nicely for this scale. Love the ribbon belt---as a matter of fact, I have enough to trim a sweater for myself. Jersey from the 1-Euro-a-Meter table, and some beautiful jacquard ribbon.

Dress #330 Christmas Rose

This fabric has been in the stash for a long time. Since 1999 maybe? When it showed up in a search earlier this year, I knew it would be a good Christmas-y dress. Cotton fabric, and black velvet ribbon.

Dress #329 Anniversary

Today is our 22nd Anniversary. Of course, we are going out to dinner. Am I wearing a dress like this? No, but I like it anyway. Mesh fabric and a ribbon scarf. Unfortunately, the scarf hides the cute little spaghetti straps on the dress.

Dress #328 Preppy Christmas

A black turtleneck, and a plaid skirt in Christmas colors says "preppy" to me. Just another way of saying "classic" as well. Cotton plaid fabric (thanks, Georgie!) ribbons and trims.

Dress #327 Candy Stripes

Red and white peppermint stripes---Christmas cheer! Cotton fabrics, velvet ribbon and a crafted red and gold pin.

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Dress #326 Christmas Red

I love red---all year 'round. But a red party dress just says "Christmas!" to me. Red silk, a ruffly trim and the last piece of this silver ribbon.

Dress #325 Sunrays

As the days are getting shorter, I thought some rays of sunshine would brighten up the dresses. However, I'm not sure whether this might look a bit more sci-fi? Pieces of a sequin trim and cotton lamé fabric.

Dress #324 Holly

A wintery print in a tailored style. Cotton fabric, ribbon and jewelry findings.

Dress #323 Christmas Magnolia

Bright red background with white magnolias---a lovely Christmas combination! Made from a paper tissue---I love working with the printed layer. So malleable!

Dress #322 Dinner with Grandmother

A more conservative dress, but in lovely rich garnet color. Silk dupioni, ribbons, and a bibelot.

Dress #321 Emerald

A holiday dress for when you don't want to be too over-the-top, perhaps??  The color people have decided emerald is the color of the year for 2013. I like it. Of course, I'd be hard pressed to say there's a color I don't like at all. These are fabrics with emerald that I had on hand: silk dupioni, cotton, and some ribbon and beads.

Dress #320 Quilted Silk

One more really cold night here in Paris, and then it will warm up a bit. Quilted anything is warm, so today we have a quilted silk vest over a blouse and skirt. Silk tie fabric, twill ribbon, and other miscellaneous bits and pieces.

Dress #319 Gray Sweater

This was an attempt to create the look of a lacy gray sweater that I made for myself. I like the look of it with the red belt and a darker gray skirt. Trim, fabric, and ribbon.

Dress #318 Say Yes

I think there is a new show called "Say Yes to the Dress," and this is my interpretation of that title! I found it very difficult to keep writing "oui si yes" as the word "no" wanted a turn. Paper, pen and ribbon.

Dress #317 Feathers and Dots

More blue and black--- love this combination--and feathers! Even better, black feathers with blue dots. Another gala gown made of silk dupioni and feathers.

Dress #316 Tiger Tiger

I toyed with the idea of calling this dress "Life of Pi." I'm really looking forward to the movie---it opens here on December 19th. I was enthralled with the book, and even though the book is ALWAYS better than the movie, I like seeing the on-screen interpretation. The dress is a scrap from a silk dress I adored in the late 80's, and a black felt jacket.

Dress #315 Pink and Black

This dress has been in my mind for several months, but I didn't have any pink fabric at hand. I bought the fabric for another dress, and made this one as well. Fabric and lace---my favorite combination.

Dress #314 Favorite Things

As the song goes....girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes...these are few of my favorite things. This works as well for a  Chanukah dress this week, too. Fabric, ribbon, and a Star of David bead from the little bead store.

Dress #313 Gala Black and Gold

Gold lamé  and black velvet---I thought Yves St. Laurent had done a dress very much like this but I couldn't find an image on-line. I like the combination. Simple and elegant. Recycled fabric from a gold top that I loved to wear with gray flannel trousers, and a piece of double faced black velveteen ribbon.

Dress #312 Sparkling Taupe

The photo doesn't show it well, but this fabric has a definite sparkle. I love the drab color with the sparkle, and a touch of gold and black polka dots. Simple, sophisticated and very wearable.

Dress #311 Cardinal

This might look strange, but seriously, I think this idea in a bright red silk taffeta would be gorgeous. A bit unusual, but if one is wearing bright red, hiding in the corners isn't going to work anyway. Rice paper.

Dress #310 A Simple Cocktail Dress

I suspect that simple + lamé don't go together, but this is really a simple dress with a mesh and chiffon overlay on the lamé. I love the oversized bow belt. Lamé, mesh, chiffon, and a piece of trim.

Dress #309 Silk Chiffon

This lovely silk chiffon print is so interesting. Red, gray and black, and a patchwork appearance. A great dress for work or a special lunch or dinner in town. I'd wear this dress---and that's really good, because I have enough fabric to make something for myself! Silk chiffon and a metallic paper belt.
